John Watson

John Watson is the owner and President of both John Watson Management and the successful indie label, Eleven: a music company. Over the last six years JWM and Eleven have both delivered either gold or multi-platinum albums for each and every one of their artists.

As a teenager John worked in record stores while playing in and managing indie bands. While at university he worked as a freelance music journalist for magazines including “Rolling Stone”. In 1991 he joined Sony Music as A&R Manager where he later also assumed responsibility for the international marketing of the label's Australian artists including Midnight Oil.

In 1994 John was involved in helping establish Sony's murmur label. He was jointly responsible for signing Silverchair to that imprint before leaving Sony the following year to establish John Watson Management. Silverchair has since sold more than six million albums and enjoyed more top 40 hits than any other contemporary Australian band. They remain JWM clients and Eleven: a music company released their latest album Young Modern which swept the 2007 ARIA Awards.

John Watson Management also represent Australia's latest breakthrough rock band, Wolfmother. Their debut album has created waves around the world with global sales of over 1,000,000 copies. The band made history in 2007 when they became the first Aussie group to win a Grammy Award since Men At Work back in 1981.

JWM also co-manages acclaimed singer/songwriter Pete Murray whose last two albums have each been certified over five times platinum. The company also manages Paul Mac and The Dissociatives who have both enjoyed gold selling albums which were released on Eleven. In addition to these artists Eleven: a music company, has also scored two gold selling albums each with non-management clients, Little Birdy and Kisschasy.

However, the biggest local success story for both John Watson Management and Eleven over recent years is singer/songwriter Missy Higgins. Her acclaimed albums, “The Sound Of White” and “On A Clear Night” were the the highest selling Australian albums of 2005 and 2007 respectively and have made Missy one of the country's most popular and highly regarded live performers.
