KT Ang

Mr Ang is the Regional Director & Regional Counsel of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) for the Asia-Pacific region. CISAC is a non-profit, non-governmental, international organisation whose objective is the protection and advancement of the economic and moral interests of intellectual creators worldwide.

As the representative of CISAC for the Asia-Pacific region since 1989, Mr Ang has been directly involved in the creation of numerous collective administration organisations in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Mongolia and the Philippines. In the course of his work, he has also to, on behalf of authors, composers and publishers, liase with governments in the region with regard to the enactment and amendment of copyright laws.

He also supervises the activities of BIEM for the region.

He has carried out numerous missions as WIPO expert and consultant to advise governments on the creation of copyright systems generally and on the establishment of collective management organizations in particular. In this connection, he has made recommendations to countries such as Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Vietnam. He has also conducted studies on the creation of regional collective management systems for WIPO in relation to ASEAN and the Pacific Island Forum countries.

As part of his work, he has lectured widely throughout the Asia-Pacific region on copyright issues. He has also been called on as a speaker at the International Copyright Institute of the US Copyright Office on numerous occasions. He has been invited by WIPO to speak on copyright issues throughout the region as well as in Geneva.

He has also assisted International Federation of Reproduction Rights (IFRRO) in their efforts to establish collective management organisations in the field of photocopying in the Asian region. He is currently an independent director of the Copyright Licensing & Administration Society of Singapore (CLASS) Ltd, a reprographic rights organisation created in Singapore in October 1999.

Mr Ang holds an honours degree in law from the National University of Singapore as well as a Master of Laws from the University of London where he specialised in commercial and intellectual property laws. He has a post graduate diploma in UK, EU and US Copyright Laws, also from the University of London. Prior to joining CISAC, he was in private legal practice in Singapore.
